The Board of Support Act Limited (SAL) are pleased to announce the formation of a South Australian branch (SALSA), headed up by industry veteran, David Day. David has put together an enthusiastic team of locals who will assist Support Act in raising much needed funds to help music industry colleagues who fall on hard times.

David Day

DAVID DAY
Chair: SALSA

David is from the other side of the business. He started in radio at the age of 16 and now at 56 is still ‘rockin’ on the air at Triple M Adelaide. He is noted for his absolute passion in promoting Australian talent from the early days of the Twilights, Masters, Zoot, to Sherbet, Skyhooks, Cold Chisel, AC/DC, Dragon, L.R.B. Billy Thorpe, Brian Cadd, Russell Morris, Jo Camilleri, John Swan, to today’s Australian Rockers.

He’s been a published author [History of South Australian Music from 1956], a radio programmer and music director, a Councilor for The City Of Glenelg, a TV presenter, a music journalist, and if that’s not enough he has his own Radio and Television School where he teaches the Art Of Voice Over and Public Speaking. He has his own record company, Chart Records looking after Adam Hills. David continues his radio career with MIX 102.3 FM Adelaide.

He has an acute awareness of what it’s like to be ‘knocking on heavens door’ as he calls it.

He spent 3 years on dialysis, had both his kidneys taken out, survived cancer, 2 heart attacks, a triple by-pass and is now a very healthy and energetic transplant recipient.

Gary Burrows

GARY BURROWS - Deputy Chair
APRA

Gary Burrows has worked in the Music Industry for the past 40 years.

Based in Adelaide he played in various bands including Brass Carnival and The Boys as a drummer, singer and songwriter. He currently tours with his new band, The Rustlers, as guitarist, singer, songwriter, performing at Country Music Festivals around Australia and has recently signed an international publishing deal for his compositions with Canberra based Hardrush Music Corporation.

For 24 of those years he has managed the Adelaide office of APRA and still today is responsible for licensing in South Australia as well as the Northern Territory.

As part of his commitment to the industry Gary has also served on committee’s including Ausmusic, Arts SA Recording Assistance Programme, Rockpool-SAMIA and Fuse and was MC and a co-ordinator, along with the AHA and sympathetic politicians, for the rally against building development that threatened the business of entertainment in adjoining and nearby Hotels. Success continued as front man for the 'Party Boys' and as support to the likes of AC/DC, Joe Cocker, Bad Company and Deep Purple.

Throughout his career John has always jumped in and given his time and talent to great causes and now he is a Support Act committee member and the Ambassador for Support Act in South Australia, where he has recently returned home to live.
